CUBRID receives the Award of Outstanding Contribution in Open Source Software Industry from the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT on November 30th, 2021.

The ‘Outstanding Contribution in Open Source Software Industry Award’ is an annual event hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea and organized by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) of South Korea.

CUBRID is honored with the award from the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea, the highest award in the organization category. This award is for companies that are at the forefront of developing open source software-related technologies, cultivating talents, and creating new business models while seeking to explore high-quality jobs, new markets, and new industries.

Instead of applying the traditional vendor-client model, CUBRID, with the dual open source license system (engine: Apache license 2.0; APIs and GUI tools: Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) license) has played an important role as a substitute for global commercial products in the South Korean DBMS market; CUBRID has helped companies and organizations in various market, including the public industry and the national defense of South Korea, to reduce their total ownership cost (TOC) significantly.

As a leading company in the South Korean open source software market, CUBRID has contributed to cultivating open software developers by sharing experiences about open source projects and sponsoring developer and community events. Last year, CUBRID established CUBRID Foundation, an open source software foundation in the U.S., laying the foundation for creating a global developer ecosystem.

To share the philosophy and value of open source culture, CUBRID is actively communicating and interacting with the open source community. CUBRID is rapidly replacing global commercial software to reduce the national budgets of South Korea and it records the highest market share in the public cloud DBMS market of South Korea. CUBRID believes that now is the time for South Korea to shift their role from open source software users to also open source software producers.
