How to Contribute to CUBRID Project

Welcome abroad!

Contributing doesn't always mean making code changes and having a code repository commit access. In fact, some of the best open source contributors never have commit access. In order for CUBRID to be successful, we rely on help in many areas other than writing software. These include:

• Submitting bug reports (this is very valuable for us!) and feature requests.
• Writing tutorials (esp. based on common issues in CUBRID forum and common questions in Q&A site).
• Asking and answering questions.
• Translating contents.
• Spreading through SNS.
• Joining CUBRID Affiliate Program.

Bug reports and Feature requests

Bug reports are one of the most valuable type of contributions in CUBRID project. If you attach your patches, even better! You can report bugs for various software used in CUBRID ecosystem:

• CUBRID Database Engine

We pay close attention to each bug report. If you think we should implement some feature, please request.

Writing tutorials

The documentation is one of the most valuable assets in CUBRID project. It's the first place developers come and look for instructions and sample code. If you've developed a nice application which uses CUBRID as a back-end database, please write a tutorial focusing on:

• how you've made things work (describe steps);
• what other users need to pay attention to;
• what you've discovered that isn't documented in CUBRID Manual;
• anything else you think will be very interesting for CUBRID users.

Write the tutorial, and let us know the link to your post through @CUBRID Twitter account or Facebook page. We will add a link to your post to CUBRID Tutorials.

Asking and answering questions

Asking question is another great way how you can contribute to CUBRID project. It's highly likely that someone else has or will have the same question about CUBRID. Our Q&A site is very well indexed by Google search engine that next time someone asks a similar question, they will find yours and the answer for it.

Even better, jump in and start answering to questions with no answer or if you have a better answer, please do so and start earning the reputation points. We regularly give out $50 worth Amazon or iTunes Gift Cards for such contributions.

Translating

Beside writing new tutorials or answering questions, you can simply translate some of the existing documentation pages to your the language you are fluent in. For example, translate:

• CUBRID page in Wikipedia to your own language. Other users have already translated it to Arabic, Spanish, Korean, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Portugese, Romanian and Russian languages.

Don't have your language? Let your country users know about CUBRID by translating the introductory page at Wikipedia. We will send you $50 worth Amazon or iTunes Gift Cards (whatever you choose) for your contribution.

Spreading through SNS

Do you use Facebook or Twitter? Then you have all the means to contribute to CUBRID project by spreading the news about it.

Let your friends know about CUBRID.
