CUBRID plans to add the clustering support to its open source database by the end of this year, which will allow it to distribute the database across multiple servers and boost its reliability and availability.
Here is the preview of CUBRID Cluster features.
We know CUBRID is a database server engine already highly optimized for Web Applications. The CUBRID Cluster will be a spin-off project of this CUBRID DBMS. The objective of CUBRID Cluster is to provide the linear scalability without altering the application. This will be possible through location/failure/replication/relocation transparency by global schema. CUBRID Cluster will support the single database view while providing the multi access point to database. The clustered database system can be scaled-up independently. Thus, applications will not have to consider the physical structure of the database any more. The Clustering capability will also provide the distributed partition and better load balancing features.
Pertaining to CUBRID Cluster development process, it will be completely open source and will be developed together with CUBRID Developers Community at http://sourceforge.net/projects/cubridcluster. The stable release will be announced at the end of this year.
Once again, CUBRID Cluster is an open source project, so all developers are welcomed to join, propose their ideas, and improve the code. Visit http://www.cubrid.org/cluster for more information.
